When folks start getting interested in watches they sometimes dismiss Tudor as the little sibling of Rolex, but speak to anyone who’s been in the game for an extended period, you’ll know Tudor is the real deal. So much so, that the brand has built a cult following of dive watch enthusiasts who believe the brand makes the best product period.

Fair warning: if you’re hunting for a refined dress watch you won’t find necessarily find that in this Buyer’s Guide, but if you’re after a near-perfect daily wearer hat can handle anything you throw at it, then Tudor is a name you need to know.

Technically sophisticated, value-driven, and meticulously designed, let’s get stuck into the best Tudor watches you can add to the collection right now.

While the original Black Bay from 2015 turned heads for all the right reasons, it was the launch of the Black Bay 58 that cemented Tudor’s position as one of the finest manufacturers of vintage-inspired dive watches on the planet.

Aimed at a growing community of vintage enthusiasts, its 39mm case size (11.9mm thick) was exactly what folks wanted; as were its gilt no-date dial and red triangle bezel, both borrowed from the vintage Tudor Prince Submariner ref. 7924s. The Tudor Black Bay 58 has been so successful that plenty of other watches in the brand’s catalogue have followed its more modest proportions; dateless dial design; reliable movement; and robust water resistance.

Admittedly it’s no longer the new kid on the block, but the Tudor Black Bay 58 will forever be remembered as one of the brand’s most important modern references and continues to represent excellent value (in a market where prices have only gone one way in recent years).

The Best Tudor Watches To Add To Your Collection In 2024

Tudor Pelagos 39

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Case Diameter: 39mm
  • Case Thickness: 11.8mm
  • Case Material: Titanium
  • Bezel Material: Ceramic
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Titanium
  • Dial Colour: Black
  • Water Resistance: 200m
  • Movement: Manufacture Calibre MT5400 (COSC)
  • Power Reserve: 70 hours

I’ll have to admit some bias before introducing the Pelagos 39: it’s a watch that I own and absolutely love. In addition to that, using the word “perfect” is never a good idea in the realm of product reviews, but so far, the experience of owning the Tudor Pelagos 39 has been flawless and trust me — I’ve tried to gripe about it.

The case proportions are ideal for my wrist size: made all the more comfortable by the titanium case and bracelet. I’ve never liked date windows particularly either, so the dial is nicely symmetrical, and the 70-hour power reserve runs without a hitch.

On top of that, the clasp’s micro-adjustment mechanism is perfect for combating thermal expansion; the bezel has one of the most satisfying clicks you’ll ever hear; and the titanium case and bracelet look great, following a few light scratches.

If I have any complaints, they are few in number and specific in nature. Firstly, the luminescent material applied to the hands and hour markers isn’t particularly bright, only lasts a few minutes before dimming, and isn’t applied evenly across surfaces. Secondly, the sunburst brushing on the ceramic bezel doesn’t look as quite good here as it does on other Tudor divers; and I would have preferred the same matte finish as was present in the original Pelagos models.

Unsurprisingly, beyond those small quibbles, you’re left with a daily diver that is almost impossible to fault. If you’re contemplating purchasing your own Pelagos 39, feel free to message me on Instagram and I’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Tudor Black Bay 58 GMT

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Case Diameter: 39mm
  • Case Thickness: 12.8mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Aluminium
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Steel
  • Dial Colour: Black
  • Water Resistance: 200m
  • Movement: Manufacture Calibre MT5450-U (COSC and METAS certified)
  • Power Reserve: 65 hours

The Tudor Black Bay 58 GMT was released at Watches & Wonders earlier this year and has been met with critical acclaim from both media and collectors alike. It’s got everything we know and love about the Black Bay 58 — the case profile, the no-date gilt dial, and more — but has been levelled up even further with the addition of a GMT hand so wearers can track multiple timezones.

As if that wasn’t enough, we also see a revival of the legendary black and red “Coke” bezel that was once available in Rolex GMTs (a design detail that many anticipated Rolex would relaunch in 2024). All of this combines into a super wearable package — especially if you’re a frequent flyer — that made it one of our favourite launches from Watches & Wonders 2024 and a watch that’s sure to be popular around the world.

Tudor Black Bay 41

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Case Diameter: 41mm
  • Case Thickness: 13.6mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Aluminium
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Steel
  • Dial Colour: Black
  • Water Resistance: 200m
  • Movement: Manufacture Calibre MT5602-U
  • Power Reserve: 70 hours

Another new release in 2024, this expression of the Tudor Black Bay 41 showcases exactly why both Rolex and Tudor have been so successful over the decades: slow, iterative design updates.

The 41mm case size was what we saw with the very first Black Bay from 2015 and Tudor has been refining it ever since, with this year’s headline improvements being new bracelet options, a new crown, an updated bezel, and the T-fit clasp. Essentially, the upgrades we saw to the Burgundy reference in 2023.

One notable difference to the Burgundy reference from last year is the monochromatic dial of this year’s Black Bay 41, with a silvery white print and hands (rather than the gilt dial of 2023). With a solid 200m of power reserve, high high-performing 70-hour power reserve movement (METAS-certified at that), there’s a lot to love about this new Black Bay 41.

Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono ‘Cycling Edition’

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Case Diameter: 43mm
  • Case Thickness: 13.2mm
  • Case Material: Black Carbon Composite
  • Bezel Material: Black Carbon Composite
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Textile
  • Dial Colour: Black
  • Water Resistance: 100m
  • Movement: Manufacture Calibre MT5813 (COSC)
  • Power Reserve: 70 hours

Tudor’s support of rugby and sailing are both well-known quantities in the watch world, but the watchmaker has added another sport to its roster with the debut of the Tudor Pro Cycling Team back in 2019. The team has enjoyed solid success in its first few years and to commemorate its debut Grand Tour race — the Giro d’Italia (“Tour of Italy”) — announced the launch of the Pelagos FXD Chrono ‘Cycling Edition’, complete with red highlights that match the team’s kit colours.

In essence, the watch uses the same platform as the FXD Alinghi Red Bull Racing Edition: including the latter’s 43mm matte carbon case, automatic chronograph movement, and textile strap.

While there won’t be too many serious cyclists training with it on the wrist, it does make for the perfect interval tracker when your Garmin (inevitably) runs out of battery; and makes for a comfortable, lightweight watch when you aren’t on the bike.

Tudor Royal 41 Salmon

  • Case Diameter: 41mm
  • Case Thickness: 10.6mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Steel
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Steel
  • Dial Colour: Salmon
  • Water Resistance: 100m
  • Movement: Calibre T603
  • Power Reserve: 38 hours

Launched at Watches & Wonders 2023 (alongside a host of other winners from Tudor), the Tudor Royal remains somewhat overshadowed among enthusiasts, in no small part due to the staggering popularity of the brand’s dive watches.

However, with an extremely attractive salmon dial; angular integrated case and bracelet; and plenty of 70s-inspired charm, there’s a reason why we ended up adding this to our shortlist of the best watches under 5k right now.

Tudor Black Bay 54

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Case Diameter: 37mm
  • Case Thickness: 11.2mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Aluminium
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Steel
  • Dial Colour: Black
  • Water Resistance: 200m
  • Movement: Manufacture Calibre MT5400 (COSC)
  • Power Reserve: 70 hours

As Tudor historians very well know, the Black Bay 54 was born as a tribute to the very first diving watch from the brand in 1954. The reference 7922 was an OG Tudor sports watch, measuring the same 37mm in diameter that the Black Bay 54 does; while also enjoying a nicely tapered vintage-style bracelet and date-free dial.

Despite its modest proportions, the watch boasts a very solid 200m of water resistance and the COSC-certified Manufacture Calibre MT5400 (which has 70 hours of reserve power). Translation? You’ve got all of the charm of a truly vintage dive watch; yet none of the worries around durability and water ingress.

If you’re a vintage lover through and through, then this may be the modern Tudor to change your mind.

Tudor Pelagos FXD “Marine Nationale”

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Case Diameter: 42mm
  • Case Thickness: 12.75mm
  • Case Material: Titanium
  • Bezel Material: Ceramic
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Textile
  • Dial Colour: Blue
  • Water Resistance: 200m
  • Movement: Manufacture Calibre MT5602 (COSC)
  • Power Reserve: 70 hours

Tudor has enjoyed an enduring relationship with the Marine Nationale (French Navy) over the decades, making diving-focused tactical references for a range of its specialist fighting forces.

As a relatively new release (from 2021) you’ll find a reliable automatic movement in the Pelagos FXD ‘Marine Nationale’, in the guise of the COSC-certified in-house Calibre MT5602.

Boasting a lightweight titanium case measuring 42mm in diameter, it feels just right on the wrist thanks to its moderate accompanying thickness (12.75mm). Both the dial and ceramic bezel are an attractive shade of navy blue (what other colour could they be?), while the closed caseback and screw-down crown help guarantee a water resistance of 200m.

Tudor Black Bay Chrono

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Case Diameter: 41mm
  • Case Thickness: 14.4mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Aluminium
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Steel
  • Dial Colour: White with black subdials
  • Water Resistance: 200m
  • Movement: Manufacture Calibre MT5813 (COSC)
  • Power Reserve: 70 Hours

Offered by Tudor with both “Panda” (white with black subdials) and “Reverse Panda” dials (black with white subdials), the Black Bay Chrono features a 41mm stainless steel case and bracelet (making it a somewhat egalitarian alternative to the Rolex Daytona).

The timepiece also features a black stainless steel bezel, while the sharp lines of the case are highlighted via brushed and polished surfaces. Rather than the three subdials you might be used to seeing on chronograph watches, the Black Bay Chrono has two subdials balanced on either side of the dial, while the 6 o’clock position is kept free for a date display.

The chronograph counters are activated via the two screw-down pushers, which along with the solid caseback, guarantees the timepiece to 200m of water resistance. Powering the watch is the Manufacture Calibre MT5813, which is COSC certified and has a 70-hour power reserve.

Tudor Black Bay 39

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Case Diameter: 39mm
  • Case Thickness: 12mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Steel
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Steel
  • Dial Colour: Blue
  • Water Resistance: 100m
  • Movement: Manufacture Calibre MT5602 (COSC)
  • Power Reserve: 70 hours

If the naming conventions of the Black Bay collection are beginning to get confusing, that’s understandable, with the Black Bay 39 arriving as yet another 39mm option (albeit with a more contemporary design).

Unlike the vintage design cues of the 39mm Black Bay 58, the ’39’ features a polished steel bezel that nicely frames the no-date dial (available in a range of different colours); while the slim lugs taper cleanly into the five-link steel bracelet with polished centre-links.

Rather than a dive watch, it’s probably more effective to conceive of this as an everyday option if you love a watch with a little more bling under the cuff, and one that pairs very nicely with suiting.

Tudor Black Bay P01

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Case Diameter: 42mm
  • Case Thickness: 14.4mm
  • Case Material: Steel
  • Bezel Material: Steel
  • Bracelet/Strap Material: Leather
  • Dial Colour: Black
  • Water Resistance: 200m
  • Movement: Manufacture Calibre MT5612 (COSC)
  • Power Reserve: 70 hours

There won’t be many folks who agree the Black Bay P01 is one of the ‘best’ Tudor watches on the market, but I’ve picked it simply on the basis of just how bonkers the design is.

The P01 is based on a prototype diver developed for the US armed forces in the 1960s — which many collectors even disputed the existence of — and features an unusual bezel locking mechanism that Rolex patented in 1968.

As you can see, the large steel case features the crown at 4 o’clock and the brushed bezel can be fixed via a pair of guards that extend from the end of the leather strap over the notches on the bezel. It’s about as far from conventionally attractive as Tudor has gotten in the last decade, but this ugly duckling offers a window into Tudor’s heritage that wasn’t all that well documented before the P01’s launch.

If you’re a collector who loves horological oddballs, this is as good as it gets.
