Names like LG, Honda, Sony, Nvidia, Samsung, Hisense, and more reveal innovations that promise to improve our lives and sometimes blow our minds.
At CES 2025 there’s plenty to get excited about, from projectors that turn every living room into a cinema and AI-powered fitness equipment, to a robot vacuum that can pick things up, and affordable noise-cancelling headphones. The show is currently underway so we’ll keep you abreast of the latest and greatest as they get announced.
Halliday’s Smart Glasses Mean You’ll Never Need To Learn Another Language
Plenty of tech companies have been trying to make VR/AR smart glasses a thing for a while now, with the most recent flop being the overly expensive, heavy, and cumbersome Apple Vision Pro (now reportedly discontinued as Apple pursues a pared-back version).
While Meta has been making slow progress with its Orion Ray-Ban collaboration, newcomer Halliday has revealed its play for the emerging market with an affordable pair of smart glasses that actually look good.
Priced at just US$489 (AU$787), these specs resemble a classic pair of Wayfarers, arrive with smartphone notifications, 40 different possible language translations in real-time, and even offer advice from an AI assistant.
They do all this by projecting a 3.5-inch display into your line of sight that’s invisible to everyone else, they’re more lightweight than Meta’s offering, and are compatible with prescription lenses — very impressive stuff.
Nvidia’s Project DIGITS Is A $4,800 AI Supercomputer For Your Home Office
We’ve all read about Nvidia’s meteoric rise thanks to its five-figure GPUs that have allowed AI to become the hottest tech category in the game, but at CES 2025 the chip-maker has turned some of its attention to the home office.
Powered by the GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip, the newly announced Project DIGITS is a supercomputer boasting a petaflop of AI performance that anyone can buy and use.
Small enough to fit into the palm of your hand, it arrives with 128GB of unified, coherent memory and up to 4TB of NVMe storage, allowing it to run up to 200-billion-parameter large language models. Set to be available from May this year, it’s priced at just US$3,000 (AU$4,800).
Size Is The Prize With The Hisense 116-inch TriChroma LED TV
The question isn’t if you’d want the Hisense 116-inch TriChroma LED TV in your home: the question is if you have a wall that’s big enough to mount it on. That’s right, at CES 2025 Hisense has revealed its latest generation of TVs with the TriChroma LED TV, measuring just shy of 3m from corner to corner.
Featuring groundbreaking RGB Local Dimming Display Technology and AI-driven enhancements for cutting-edge picture clarity and transitions, it’s TV like you’ve never seen it before. With 10,000 nits of maximum image brightness, it also supports Dolby Vision, Dolby Vision IQ, and IMAX Enhanced tech, so when it’s time for the next movie night your house is guaranteed to be the hosting venue.
While we’re still waiting on confirmation of Australian pricing, the Hisense 116-inch TriChroma LED TV will be available for sale in Australia later this year.
Circular Ring 2 Has 8 Days Of Battery & Can Perform An ECG
Wearables have exploded as a tech category in recent years, with health and fitness tracking rings one of the more comfortable formats that have arrived so far. Oura is probably the most well-known example of tech-infused rings, but the Circular Ring 2 wants to take its crown, debuting with some seriously impressive features.
Not only does it have an impressive eight-day battery life (with 24-hour health and sleep tracking), but it’s also capable of performing ECG readings and FDA-approved AFib detection. You can shower while wearing it, it’s got wireless charging, and has a companion app that uses the camera in your phone to accurately size your finger to ensure the perfect fit when it arrives.
It’s worth noting that the first Apple Watch capable of performing an ECG wasn’t approved for use in Australia for a year or two, so Aussies might need to wait for the TGA to approve all features of the Circular Ring 2. However, it’s currently expected to start shipping in March with a reasonable starting price of US$380 (AU$606).
LG Combines A Projector, Speaker, & Lamp With The PF600U
PF600U isn’t a name that’s likely to stick in your memory, but the feature set of this three-in-one piece of household tech certainly will. As a follow-up to the popular LG CineBeam Q, the LG PF600U looks like a typical floor lamp at a glance, however, as well as serving as an LED mood light, also boasts a built-in projector and Bluetooth speaker.
It’s probably one of the best projectors we’ve seen as far as a unit that can seamlessly blend into your home décor, featuring Full HD (1,920×1,080) resolution, display size of between 30 and 120 inches, 300 ANSI lumens of brightness, and streaming via LG webOS.
The Bluetooth speaker offers stereo sound quality so you don’t need audio cables running across your floor, while the lamp function can set the mood with nine different colours and five levels of brightness. We’re still waiting for details about when it’ll be available in Australia and its price, but if you’re considering a projector to replace your current TV, this could be what you’ve been waiting for.
AI-Powered amp Workout Device
If your New Year’s resolutions include getting your rig back into shape, the team at amp announced an AI-powered home workout machine that packs a lot into a small package. If you’re living in an apartment, or simply don’t have space in your house for an old school home-gym set-up, amp is an incredibly space-efficient piece of equipment that mounts to your wall.
It features an adjustable arm that allows you to do a resistance cable workout, with the weight controlled via a rotating dial that can go as heavy as 100lb (45kg). The main point of difference that amp offers, however, is the amp digital app that acts like a virtual personal trainer, tracking your sets, reps and weight, and offering personalised workout programs for you.
Deliveries of the amp fitness device will begin early this year, with an RRP of US$1,795 (AU$2,882).
Roborock’s Saros Z70 Is The Future Of Robot Vacuums
A new generation of robotic vacuum cleaners has arrived at CES 2025 with the Roborock Saros Z70. Not only does it independently vacuum and mop your house, but it arrives equipped with a five-axis OmniGrip robotic arm that uses a camera and LED light to pick up rubbish and clutter.
Roborock claims it’s the first mass-produced robotic arm-equipped robo-vac of its kind, designed to move any socks, towels, or shoes that are in its path (so long as they weigh less than 300g). That means no more getting home from a long day of work, only to find your robotic vacuum cleaner has ingested a sock and the floor is still dirty.
Australian availability and pricing for the Roborock Saros Z70 remains to be confirmed.
Happy Plugs Play Pro Are A Truly Affordable Pair Of Noise-Cancelling Headphones
Noise-cancelling headphones are truly one of the great recent inventions, however, if you’re looking for a pair on a budget there aren’t many good options. The Stockholm-based team at Happy Plugs are looking to change that with the Play Pro headphones announced at CES 2025.
Priced at €59.99 (AU$99), they’re around a third of the price of similar headphones from bigger brands, yet still offer 40mm drivers, an IPX4 water resistance rating, USB-C charging, and 50 hours of battery life. Plenty to love here.
Track Your Fitness On The Cheap With Samsung’s Galaxy Fit3
Samsung wants fitness tracking to be affordable for everyone and the Galaxy Fit3 delivers exactly that, as the brand’s latest smartwatch that costs just $149.
For that price, you might expect the features to be pretty basic, yet Samsung has managed to pack it with calls, messages, notifications, music, workout tracking (with over 100 different activities to select from), heart rate and blood oxygen measurements, step tracking, fall detection, emergency SOS alerts, and even snore detection.
You’re also getting a 1.6-inch colour display and an impressive 13 days of battery life, so there’s no need for daily overnight charging. When you consider similar products that cost two to five times as much, the Samsung Galaxy Fit3 is easily one of the most impressive affordable smartwatches on the market right now.
