Bond fans are on track to receive more than just the twice-delayed film with the announcement of a brand new James Bond video game by Hitman series developers, IO Interactive. Currently being produced under the working title Project 007, expectations are naturally high; IO CEO Hakan Abrak himself calling it “the most ambitious game” in the studio’s entire history.
“Featuring a wholly original Bond story, players will step into the shoes of the world’s favourite secret agent to earn their 00 status in the very first James Bond origin story,” reads the official description.
“IO Interactive is currently recruiting elite agents from around the world to join the team that will build out this exciting and unique gaming title.”
IO Interactive is collaborating with the usual Bond custodians, MGM, EON Productions, and Delphi. But the most exciting prospect about Project 007 – aside from receiving a James Bond video game, of course – involves IO Interactive’s proven track record when it comes to delivering stealth/assassination gaming experiences.

One could argue Hitman: Absolution (2012), Hitman (2016), and Hitman 2 (2018) have served as the perfect audition(s) for this specific gig, comfortably earning the Danish company the right to handle Bond’s mythology. At least in all aspects pertaining to video games.
Project 007 “will be made for modern systems and platforms”, referring to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, as well as PC. Beyond what we’ve already covered in this article, further details have not yet been disclosed. Given how IO Interactive has its hands full with Hitman 3 right now – which is scheduled to release next year – you probably won’t be playing a new James Bond video game until sometime in 2022 (at the earliest).
