Ever a fan of the subversive, Stranger Things has just released a teaser trailer… sort of. Fans will remember how the previous season was first unveiled via an era appropriate Eggo’s TV spot. This time round, they’ve opted for an era appropriate mall ad.
The ad is everything you’d expect from a retro TV spot for the classic all-American shopping centre ‘n’ food court hangout. There’s even a tongue-in-cheek reference towards the Upside-Down (“… in America… and beyond…”), as well as a rather delightfully awkward appearance from our favourite teenaged father of four, who now appears to be working as an ice-cream scooper.
Given how the show is known for using classic films as a blueprint for the overarching storyline each season, there’s speculation that Season 3 will make use of the George Romero mall-set zombie flicks. Could Eleven & Co. be fighting against the undead this time round?
Whatever the case, enjoy the nostalgic homage to when televised ads were tacky and horrible. We’ve got some waiting to do in the meantime.
