A huge twelve years after PlayStation’s online gaming network began with the PS3, Sony quietly announced last year that a new beta feature allowed users to finally change their PSN handles from the glory days of 2010, back when they thought @ladiesman217 was a killer choice.

PlayStation’s Sid Shuman confirmed the details in a blog post late last year that the PSN Online ID Change feature was part of the PlayStation Preview Program beta.

Those few who were lucky enough to make it into the program were able to change their PSN ID’s as often as they liked until the beta wrapped up in November.

Now, however, the feature has since been launched to all general users; the first name change is free, while the second will cost US$9.99.

Sony did have this additional information to pass onto its users, however:

This feature is compatible with PS4 games originally published after April 1, 2018, and a large majority of the most-played PS4 games that were released before this date. However, please note not all games and applications for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita systems are guaranteed to support the online ID change, and users may occasionally encounter issues or errors in certain games. If for any reason you experience issues after changing your ID, you can revert back to your original ID for free at any time (you will only be able to revert once during the preview program).

To change your PSN handle, simply head to the PlayStation [Settings] > [Account Management] > [Account Information] > [Profile] > [Online ID]. Or you can get it done via the profile page of your PS4.
