In this day and age, no matter how challenging the release, there will invariably be a speedrunner waiting in the wings to finish the damn thing as quick as humanly possible. Inhuman at times, even. And after just 12 short days of hitting shelves, streamer LilAggy has managed to complete a sub-hour Elden Ring speedrun, which is surely a world record of some kind.

For those who haven’t been keeping score at home – or their finger on the video game pulse recently – Elden Ring is the latest action role-playing game to capture the world’s attention (we’re talking a vice-like grip on the zeitgeist). Created in collaboration with the literary genius behind Game of Thrones and fantasy icon in general, George R.R. Martin, similar to the likes of Dark Souls and Bloodborne, the only other detail you really need to know about FromSoftware’s GOTY contender: it’s pretty fucking hard. At least, it is for the vast majority of us. Enter: LilAggy.

As you can imagine, this impressive effort with Elden Ring definitely isn’t his first rodeo speedrun. The man whose pronouns are built/different made a name for himself by pulling off equally insane feats with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice – which he logged an all-time best run for at just 19 minutes and 59 seconds – as well as taking on gimmicky playthroughs of the aforementioned Dark Souls. The one caveat is, however, these attempts are by no means comprehensive. The entire objective is to exploit tricks and shortcuts to cut out huge chunks of the game and brag about how quickly it can be done.

But spare a thought for another YouTuber Niko Bellic, who made headlines less than 24 hours ago for completing his own speedrun in approximately two hours and 35 minutes without dying (after the single required death at the beginning to the multi-armed Grafted Scion, of course).

According to Kotaku, Niko Bellic skipped most of the fights, blitzing through entire areas just to pillage them while “beelining through much of the Lands Between, only stopping to take down mandatory bosses like Margit, the Fell Omen.” Old mate Niko would defeat a few optional bosses here and there, taking damage all throughout the speedrun, eventually “crushing” Elden Ring with nothing but the starting armour. Despite all that, the spotlight has now soundly been stolen by LilAggy.

Tough luck.
