Clearly ignited by the overwhelming success of Hogwarts Legacy, an open-world video game based on the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Warners Bros. Games has already announced the next title in what looks to be a bit of a franchise. Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will move away from the adventure RPG of Hogwarts Legacy and towards the genre of sports games, competing with the likes of the usual FIFA, NBA 2K, and Madden NFL titles.
The spiritual successor to Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup will arrive for both PC and console gamers with a strong focus on the online multiplayer experience. Unbroken Studios, which is behind the upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, will develop the title for Warner Bros. Games.
The publisher has already confirmed that Quidditch Champions will be a standalone game and not just DLC for Hogwarts Legacy. It’ll also be published under Warner’s Portkey Games sub-label, which is responsible for all games relating to the Wizarding World, including Hogwarts Legacy, and become one of this year’s best-selling games with well over $1 billion in sales (more than 15 million copies).

“While Portkey Games are not direct adaptations of the books and films, the games are firmly rooted in the magical universe of the Wizarding World,” wrote WB Games.
“While remaining true to J.K. Rowling’s original vision, Portkey game developers chart new territory by creating fresh ways for fans to immerse themselves in the Wizarding World.”
Not too many details have been revealed about Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions but we do know that players will be able to create and customise their own player for both solo and multiplayer. No doubt there will be some sort of story (or career) mode packed in, although given the popularity of online multiplayer team sports games, I imagine late-night rounds of high-flying broomstick soccer will be what most gamers buy this for.
While no Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions release date has been locked in, WB Games has already opened up a submission form for anyone interested in limited playtests.
We’ll keep you posted when a release date for Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is announced.
