LEGO has served up some sensational automotive-themed sets over the years, from the Lamborghini Sian and the James Bond Aston Martin DB5 to the Porsche 911 RSR or the lifesized McLaren Formula 1 race car, the hits have come thick and fast. For its latest build-kit, however, LEGO has traded speed for off-road durability with the debut of the Classic Defender 90 kit in original 80s green.
It’s worth making it clear from the outset that this Land Rover kit is a little more advanced than the bricks you probably remember from your childhood, containing no less than 2336 pieces and nearly more accessories than you can fit on a roof rack. This advanced LEGO vehicle boasts operable steering, functional suspension and a working winch, as well as the fire extinguisher, jerry cans, and toolbox that any adventurer might need when they’re camping out in the wilderness.
Faithfully and meticulously designed to look like the original 1983 Land Rover model, it’s easily one of the coolest kits that LEGO has released in recent years, not just for the fact that it’s a Defender, but because its attention to detail is fantastic. Measuring a full 32cm from the winch to the towbar and 16cm in width and height, you’ll have as much fun building it as you will rolling it across your WFH desk or around the office between Zoom calls.

“Defender is synonymous with adventure and this new LEGO set is a perfect way to capture the spirit of an incomparable, unstoppable automotive icon, whilst also sharing the playful side of the vehicle,” said Land Rover Classic director Paul Barritt about the collaboration.
It’s not the cheapest LEGO car kit at $370, but when you consider the number of accessories and delicious details to be enjoyed with the Classic Defender 90, it’s only a matter of time before your wallet opens. VIP LEGO members will already be able to purchase it, otherwise, orders will open on the 4th of April both in-store and online, with it also to be available from Land Rover on the 1st of July.
