People still haven’t forgotten about the 2022 Academy Awards, but Will Smith is forging ahead on the comeback trail nonetheless. Reuniting with Martin Lawrence, the Hollywood star has nominated Bad Boys: Ride or Die to be his first post-slap film — which now has a trailer.

Picking up where 2020’s Bad Boys For Life left off, the story is set into motion when Captain Conrad Howard (Joe Pantoliano) is framed for corruption in a sinister conspiracy that involves cartel ties. And at the centre of all this is the villainous Banker (Eric Dane).

Detective Lieutenants Mike Lowrey (Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Lawrence), Miami’s very finest, must saddle up one more time with the AMMO police unit for a case that takes them from Porsche to Chinook and clear their captain’s name.

Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Joe Pantoliano, and Eric Dane are (re)joined by Vanessa Hudgens as AMMO weapons expert Kelly; Alexander Ludwig as AMMO tech expert Dorn; Paola Núñez as Lieutenant Rita Secada, Head of Miami Police unit AMMO and Mike’s ex-girlfriend; with Jacob Scipio as Armando Aretas, Mike and Isabel’s son.

Ioan Gruffud, Melanie Liburd, Tasha Smith, Tiffany Haddish, John Salley, and yes, DJ Khaled are also set to make an appearance.

Sadly, the rumours that Michael Bay would also return to helm his iconic franchise’s next instalment have proven false with Bad Boys For Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah tapped by Sony for round two with the legendary Jerry Bruckheimer producing. The screenplay has once again been written by Chris Bremner (Bad Boys For Life, The Man From Toronto).

Bad Boys: Ride or Die is scheduled to premiere on June 6th, 2024 — check out the first trailer above.
