- Sydney Sweeney has undergone quite a physical transformation to portray former boxing champion Christy Martin in a David Michod-directed biopic.
- The in-demand actress posted behind-the-scenes pictures of her in full costume as the WBC super welterweight titleholder.
- This untitled project is filming as we speak with no release date as of yet.
Sydney Sweeney is taking on what promises to be her most challenging role yet — both in the dramatic and physical sense — with the untitled Christy Martin biopic that’s currently being helmed by Aussie directing royalty David Michod (Animal Kingdom, The King).
The Euphoria alum and modern-day answer to Marilyn Monroe has, of course, stepped into the ring as famed WBC super welterweight champion Christy Martin (49-7-3). Dubbed the “female Rocky,” Martin was a trailblazer for women in professional boxing and their place as mainstream stars of the sport.

“Well the cat’s out of the bag thanks to some paps in bushes so here’s a little BTS from my film I’m working on right now,” Sweeney, who has actually been a mixed martial artist since she was 12, captioned an Instagram post.
“Over the past few months, I’ve been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman — a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring.”
She added: “Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength, and hope, and I’m honoured to step into her shoes to share her powerful story with you all. More to come soon.”
The biopic reportedly chronicles Christy Martin’s rise to stardom as America’s most well-known female boxer in the 1990s; as well as the attempt on her life by then-husband James V. Martin (Ben Foster) in 2010, who is currently serving a 25-year sentence for attempted second-degree murder at Graceville Correctional Facility, Florida.

Other dramatic chapters you can almost certainly expect to be covered in the Michod flick involve the sexual and emotional abuse Ms Martin endured, blackmail surrounding the public reveal of her sexual orientation, and cocaine addiction (all facilitated by James).
Merritt Wever, Katy O’Brian, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor, and Tony Cavalero share the screen with Sydney Sweeney and Ben Foster this time around, in addition to Chad L. Coleman as notorious promoter Don King.
