Apparently, dragging Hugh Jackman out of retirement for Deadpool 3 was just the tip of the fan service iceberg.
The R-rated Marvel film’s first official image has been published courtesy of Ryan Reynolds himself, and it confirms the Aussie actor — who reprises his role as James Howlett / Logan / Wolverine — will (at long last) appear in the classic X-men suit.
The very prospect of this specific costuming has been teased since the first X-men movie back in 2000. Jackman’s Wolverine grumbles about the black leather outfits to which Cyclops (James Marsden) responds: “What would you prefer? Yellow spandex?”

The most egregious instance, however, occurred during a deleted scene from The Wolverine, wherein a comic-accurate version of said classic suit was actually showcased in a trunk. Now, millions of Marvel fans will finally get their wish.
As alluded to earlier, Deadpool 3 will officially mark the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) maiden R-rated release.
“It’s amazing. And we’ve got Hugh Jackman coming back for our first Deadpool film within the MCU,” remarked longstanding President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, when prompted about the fact he’d begun his superhero movie career producing the original X-Men films.
“That’s our first R-rated film. To have Hugh come back is incredible. For me, personally, that is where I started. I remember sitting behind the camera — well behind the camera — at his audition for the film. It was his first on-set audition, and he flew up to Toronto to do a read with Anna Paquin.”
“For him, and for me, and I think for all of the fans of Marvel, it’s unbelievable what has happened in those 23 years. It’s very full-circle having him come back in this new Deadpool film.”
Prior to this, Deadpool screenwriter Rhett Reese had reassured fans the threequel wouldn’t be “Disney-fied” in the wake of the 20th Century Studios acquisition.

“They are gonna let Deadpool be Deadpool, you know? It’s not like any particular joke may be the one that they say, ‘You know, that’s too far,’ that could happen. But to this point, it’s been nothing but support,” Rhett Reese told The Playlist last year.
“It’s been nothing but, ‘How can we help you?’ What from our universe would you like to use? How can we make your life easy? And we’re gonna let Deadpool be Deadpool. We’re not… this is not going to be the Disney-fied Deadpool.”
“They’re not gonna mess with the tone. I mean, I’d never say never. I guess there’s an outside chance. But we’ve always been told it can be R-[rated] and we’re proceeding as if it’s R… I don’t think that’ll change.”
Deadpool 3 starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman is currently scheduled to hit cinemas on September 6th of 2024 — check out the (alleged) synopsis and BTS shots below:
In Deadpool 3, Deadpool will use Cable’s (Josh Brolin) time travel machine to save Wolverine before his death in 2029 and they end up lost in the Multiverse being pursued by Mobius (Owen Wilson).
