Just months after the Lando Calrissian spin-off series – to be helmed by Donald and Stephen Glover –  was confirmed, reports are now indicating the long-rumoured Star Wars project, once destined for Disney+, will now be a feature-length movie.

“It’s not even a show… the idea right now is to do a movie. Right now, because of the strike, it’s kind of like telephone, all of the information,” Stephen Glover revealed during a recent appearance on the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast.

While no further details have been provided by the younger Glover sibling (who served as co-showrunner and writer to FX’s Atlanta) or otherwise at this stage, according to Variety, Lucasfilm has since corroborated the claim.

As many of you may be aware, Donald Glover first appeared as a younger iteration of the iconic Billy Dee Williams character in Ron Howard’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. And yet despite the lukewarm reception to what was a critical and commercial flop, there’s been considerable petitioning for the multihyphenate talent to return as the charming rogue.

“Lando is charm incarnate,” Donald Glover (otherwise known as Childish Gambino) told GQ.

“He’s kind of a maverick, which I don’t think there’s a lot of anymore. It’s hard to be the smooth talker nowadays. Where’s the line? That’s also where the danger is. How close can you get without tripping over it?”

Initially, the spin-off series was to be helmed by Dear White People creator Justin Simien before he was replaced by the Glover brothers. Keep an eye out here for potential updates on the Star Wars: Lando Calrissian movie starring Donald Glover.
