Scottish actor Ewan McGregor is in talks about reprising his role as the Star Wars fan-favourite Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi in a currently untitled Disney+ series, Deadline is reporting.
While Disney is holding its cards close to its chest regarding the details of the upcoming series, we do know that this production is a morphed version of a once-planned standalone film, after the mediocre success of the Han Solo spin-off, and in the same vein as the upcoming Boba Fett series The Mandalorian.
The 48-year-old portrayed Obi-Wan Kenobi in the franchise’s three prequel films, The Phantom Menace (1999), Attack of the Clones (2002) and Revenge of the Sith (2005) after the character was introduced in the franchise opener, Star Wars: A New Hope by Alec Guinness.
All Star Wars films will be available to subscribers when the Disney+ platform launches later this year, with the new series starring McGregor likely joining the streaming service alongside The Mandalorian starring Pedro Pascal. The bounty hunter series will debut on Nov. 12, which is also the Disney+ launch date.
