By now, many of you may have seen a glimpse of Baby Driver online. For those who have not, allow us to make an introduction – and tell you why you should care.
A talented getaway driver whose affinity with music makes him on par with Ryan Gosling in Drive is looking to leave the life of crime behind. The only problem standing in his way is a veteran king-pin unwilling to lose such a skilled employee. And if that’s not enough to get you hooked, there’s more.
Brought to you by the man behind Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and Ant Man (before departing from the project for creative differences), this highly anticipated follow up to Wright’s already impressive resume boasts of an equally impressive ensemble cast. The film stars The Fault in Our Stars’ Ansel Elgort as the titular Baby (but don’t hold that against him), and featuring the likes of Kevin Spacey, Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm, Eiza Gonzalez, Lily James, and even Jon Bernthal.
It is said to promise quite the spectacle, with early reviews from SXSW applauding its slick stylism and next level music integration, something that has become Wright’s cinematic signature. The soundtrack itself is loaded, ranging from names like Beck, Blur, Simon & Garfunkel, Queen, to Sky Ferreira, and Danger Mouse. Baby Driver‘s current Rotten Tomato score sits at a casual 100%.
The film is set to release here in Australia July 13th, and not soon enough if you ask us.
