Concussion and its long term effects on the human brain are as topical as ever across all levels of sports, not only in Australia but worldwide. Concussion tells the David vs. Goliath journey of Dr. Bennet Omalu (Will Smith), the forensic neuropathologist who made the first discovery of football-related brain trauma in a pro player in the United States and fought to bring awareness to the public. In his search for the truth behind the devastating affliction, Dr. Omalu’s quest humanises the price paid by professional athletes in impact sports but also by people who challenge the status quo as it exposes the political, cultural and corporate interests that fuel the business of sports.
The film also features Alec Baldwin (The Departed) and Luke Wilson (The Royal Tenenbaums) and releases in Australian cinemas February 18th.
