After an excessive eight Fast & Furious films across two decades, money hungry studio heads at Universal must have all sat around a table and decided that they simply weren’t rich enough already.
The solution to their problem? Hobbs & Shaw, the first spin-off to the popular action franchise with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson reprising his role as Diplomatic Security Service agent Luke Hobbs alongside Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw.
The trailer is about as over the top as expected, with British bad boy Idris Elba stirring the pot as super-enhanced villain Brixton Lore. Somewhere within the carnage Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible – Fallout) also graces the screen as Deckard’s sister, Hattie.
Directed by David Leitch (Deadpool 2) and with a script penned by Chris Morgan (longtime F&F screenwriter), Hobbs & Shaw is said to boast the “the biggest showdown the Fast & Furious franchise has ever seen,” according to Johnson on Twitter.
You can expect the madness to unfold on August 1st of this year, and despite a presumably crazy storyline, it’ll likely smash the box office as per usual.
