He might not be the next James Bond but UK actor Idris Elba has hit the jackpot by joining another wildly popular and long-running franchise. Best known for his roles in Luther and The Wire, Elba has signed on to play the villain in the upcoming Fast & Furious spin-off Hobbs & Shaw.
Dwayne Johnson took to Instagram to announce Elba’s casting, revealing he will be playing a character named Brixton who has been brought into the franchise to “wreak havoc, hell and mayhem.” I’m hooked already.
The ninth film in the Fast & Furious universe revolves around Johnson’s Diplomatic Security Service character Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s reformed bad guy Deckard Shaw, two fan favourites from the adrenaline-fuelled series.
Plot details are scarce but expect The Rock and The Stath to be spitting cheesy one-liners while involved in all manners of over the top action sequences as they attempt to put their differences aside and to stop antagonist Elba’s masterplan from unfolding.
