Director James Mangold (Ford v Ferrari, Logan) might have Indiana Jones: Dial of Destiny set to release in only a couple of months, but that hasn’t stopped him from looking ahead to what’s next. Mangold recently revealed that he’s begun working on a new Star Wars film about the very first jedi, as well as another film centered on the DC comics character Swamp Thing.
At this year’s Star Wars Celebration held in London, LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy revealed that Mangold’s entry in the Star Wars cannon would explore “the first Jedi to wield the force”.

“It takes place 25,000 years before Episode IV, and it’s about the discovery of the Force,” says Mangold.
“I told Kathy [Kennedy, head of Lucasfilm] I wanted to make a kind of Bible movie, a kind of Ten Commandments of Star Wars – kind of a Cecil B DeMille film about the arrival of the Force, and that’s what I’ve been pecking away at between press events. That’s the idea.”
“It’s a movie that both connects to the worlds we know, but is also far enough away from it that I think there’s a lot of opportunities to tell a story freely, also…and not be so incredibly tied in by the knots and different story strands that are already in place.”
We also found out that we were getting two other Star Wars films, on top of James Mangold’s untitled project. One of these films is set to come from The Mandalorian co-creator Dave Filoni and centers on an “escalating war between the Imperial remnant and the New Republic” set between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.
The other Star Wars film will be helmed by Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and will be set 15 years after The Rise Of Skywalker. This will see the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey amidst what has been described as a “New Jedi Order”. However, any further details are hard to come by for the project. Rest assured, we’ll keep you posted once we know more about the various new Star Wars movies.
