Lionsgate CEO John Feltheimer has confirmed that John Wick 4 and John Wick 5 will be filmed back-to-back in consecutive years. During the studio’s earnings call, it was stated that scripts were currently being prepared, with the former slated for a Memorial Day weekend release in 2022.
“We hope to shoot both John Wick 4 & 5 back-to-back when Keanu Reeves becomes available early next year,” says Feltheimer, alluding to Reeves’ pre-existing commitment to The Matrix 4.
What this means is we can expect to see John Wick 4 in theatres come May 27th of 2022, with John Wick 5 a year to 18 months after at the very least. The question right now is what could possibly be so pressing within the upcoming storyline to warrant such an immediate turnaround? Granted, the three instalments thus far have continued in sequence without so much as a breath between them. But it certainly stokes curiosity.
At this point in time, Keanu Reeves is carrying the continuation of not one, not two, but three fairly considerable franchises on his shoulders. In addition to John Wick and The Matrix, Reeves is also set to star in Bill & Ted Face The Music – which will simultaneously premiere in theatres and hit the VOD platforms on August 28th. Busy, busy.
To date, all three John Wick films have grossed US$584.2 in global box office earnings.
