Johnny Depp nails it as mobster Whitey Bulger in upcoming ‘Black Mass’

We wrote about the first trailer when it came out in April, and now the official trailer for Black Mass is out.

Based on the book Black Mass: True Story of an Unholy Alliance between the FBI and the Irish MobBlack Mass, opening 18 September,is a hard-hitting bull of a film, brimming with a stellar cast and impressive, fast-paced dialogue.

This is an epic look at Johnny Depp’s portrayal of one of the most notorious gangsters in US history; the infamous Boston mob kingpin Whitey Bulger. Set in the 1970s, the film tells the tale of the wicked alliance between FBI Agent John Connolly (Joel Edgerton) who persuades Bulger to collaborate with the FBI to bring down the Italian mob, the common enemy. The alliance quickly spirals out of control, allowing Whitey to become one of the most ruthless and powerful gangsters of Boston.

In perhaps one of the best cinematic examples of the rule keep your enemies close, this film will have you so on the edge of your seat you’re gonna hope it’s a Lazy Boy recliner with an extra 1.5m to spare. With belters such as Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Bacon, W. Earl Brown, Dakota Johnson and Joel Edgerton sharing the big screen with Depp, you’re going to want to reinvent your meaning of cool after seeing this heavyweight thriller.
