True crime lovers will be on the edge of their seats after watching the trailer for Just Mercy, the real-life story of the wrongly convicted Walter McMillian. Sentenced to death for a crime he didn’t commit, McMillian’s young attorney continues to fight for his freedom against all odds.
Directed by filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton, Just Mercy stars Jamie Foxx as death row prisoner McMillian and the always reliable Michael B. Jordan as the up and coming lawyer, Bryan Stevenson.
Falsely charged with killing an 18-year-old white girl, McMillian is sentenced to death, with Stevenson on the case to free McMillian before his number is called. Despite a large amount of evidence highlighting McMillian’s innocence, Stevenson comes up against racism, a biased legal system, and a prosecutor intent on giving McMillian the lethal injection.
Based on the memoir Just Mercy: A Story Of Justice And Redemption written by Stevenson himself, this courtroom drama is already receiving rave reviews, with both Jordan and Foxx reportedly in career-best form.
The stacked cast also includes Brie Larson, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Rob Morgan, Tim Blake Nelson, Rafe Spall, and Karan Kendrick.
Just Mercy is set for an Australian release on January 23rd.
