007 universe alumnus and historically dramatic actor – Mads Mikkelsen – is stepping out of his usual wheelhouse for the upcoming Danish-Swedish film Another Round. As you will have gathered from the headline and featured image alone, this dramedy involves getting on the piss with mates… though not in the same way frat-guy flicks like American Pie or Van Wilder tackle the subject matter. In true European fashion, this will be a subtle and genuinely life-affirming affair.
The story follows a group of high school teachers who become bored with their nine-to-five and decide to undertake an unconventional experiment – drinking enough every day to maintain a blood alcohol content level of 0.05% to see if their lives improve for the better (side note: I’ve been informed on multiple occasions by my therapist that this technically constitutes “alcoholism” or whatever).
It’s a charming and far more light-hearted role than we’re used to seeing Mads Mikkelsen in, but one that has earned him critical acclaim nonetheless. The Hannibal actor will be joined by Thomas Bo Larsen, Lars Ranthe, Magnus Millang, Maria Bonnevie, and Susse Wold. In the director’s chair, you’ll find Thomas Vinterbeg – who Mikkelsen has previously collaborated with on the rather serious The Hunt, wherein the former’s character is falsely accused of sexually abusing his young students.
Another Round will be screened at select cinemas from December 4th before hitting the associated streaming platforms on December 18th.
