Guy Ritchie’s returning to his roots with the release of the first trailer for his new crime flick The Gentleman.
After making two Sherlock Holmes films and a number of less than stellar blockbusters (King Arthur: The Legend Of The Sword, Aladdin), Ritchie’s latest is a crime caper starring Matthew McConaughey as American expat Mickey Pearson who’s established a lucrative weed business in London. As the official synopsis states, “When word gets out that he’s looking to cash out his business forever it triggers plots, schemes, bribery and blackmail in an attempt to steal his domain out from under him”.
Soundtracked by Cream’s “Sunshine Of Your Love“, the trailer looks like a cross between Ritchie favourites Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, with a little bit of the much-loved RocknRolla thrown in for good measure. There’s a good portion of violence mixed with witty dialogue and some tremendous cameos, including the one and only Huge Grant doing his best Michael Caine impression as the gangster known only as Fletcher.
The film is written and directed by Ritchie and also stars Charlie Hunnam, Colin Farrell, Michelle Dockery, Henry Golding, Eddie Marsan and Jeremy Strong.
The Gentleman is set for release on January 24th, 2020. Check out the first full-length trailer below.
