Coming off a well-received first season of the spin-off, and continuing the success of the collective Narcos series, fans of the drug tales have just been treated to a first look at the second season of Narcos: Mexico.
Where the original series followed Pablo Escobar and the drug trade in Columbia, Mexico explores – you guessed it – the drug trade in Mexico. More specifically, the rise of the Guadalajara Cartel during the 1980s.

This is the moment in history where Félix Gallardo (portrayed by Diego Luna) unified traffickers in an effort to build an empire. As an added layer of drama, DEA agent Kiki Camarena (portrayed by Michael Peña) took an undercover assignment in the first season within the Cartel only to turn up (spoiler alert), dead.
In the trailer above, it is heavily implied that Gallardo now must not only avoid the long and unforgiving reach of a vengeful US government but prepare for possible betrayal within his own organisation. As you can see, it’s guns out at the dinner table, everyone wants a piece of the pie. The party, as it were, could very well be over and no one is untouchable.
Narcos: Mexico season two will be available to stream on Netflix from February 13th.
