  • Netflix’s Avicii: I’m Tim, a documentary centred on the iconic Swedish DJ & EDM producer which was screened at the 2024 Tribeca Festival, now has a trailer.
  • The streamer will also be simultaneously releasing Avicii: My Last Show — a recording of his final performance.
  • Release date: December 31st, 2024.

In this era, few young artists can claim to have as much of an impact as Avicii (real name: Tim Bergling).

The late Swedish DJ & EDM producer of ‘I Could Be The One,’ ‘Wake Me Up,’ and ‘Levels’ fame defined an entire generation and, despite his untimely passing back in 2018, remains a palpable presence in the scene to this very day.

That’s probably why Netflix was so keen to acquire the latest documentary about him, Avicii: I’m Tim — this one directed by Henrik Burman and produced by Björn Tjärnberg.

Avicii: I’m Tim not only features the usual promises of “unprecedented access”/never-before-seen footage and interviews, but Bergling himself as the central narrator thanks to archival audio.

“This is the unlikely story of Tim Bergling — a shy and insecure boy who, without realising it, suddenly created one of the world’s most loved artists: Avicii,” reveals the official synopsis.

“Through unique home movies and a huge private archive, we get to follow Tim on a winding journey through life — from the very first breath at the maternity ward in Stockholm in 1989 to the tragic end in Oman in 2018.”

The synopsis continues: “This is a film where Tim himself is the narrator and he shares his inner self in a way we haven’t heard before. Through himself and everyone close to him — family, artist colleagues, and best friends — we get to know Tim, the boy behind Avicii, for the first time.”

Familiar names you can expect to make an appearance range from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, the legendary Nile Rodgers, and David Guetta, among others. Before this, the last Avicii documentary released was 2017’s Avicii: True Stories.

Additionally, Netflix is also set to premiere Avicii: My Last Show — his final performance, which was hosted at Ibiza’s Ushuaïa.

Bergling famously retired from touring in 2016 after a coast-to-coast run across the United States of America.

“Two weeks ago, I took the time to drive across the US with my friends and team, to just look and see and think about things in a new way,” he wrote in an open letter to fans.

“It really helped me realize that I needed to make the change that I’d been struggling with for a while.”

In the lead-up to his mortal departure, Avicii had been grappling with the lingering effects of his gall bladder and appendix removal. But the struggle also involved an opioid addiction and, more broadly, his mental health.

On April 20th, 2018, he was found dead while holidaying in Muscat, Oman. The reported cause was suicide. Tim Bergling was only 28 years old.

Avicii: I’m Tim and Avicii: My Last Show is scheduled to launch globally via Netflix on December 31st, 2024 — check out the trailer above.
