- 22 years later, Bad Boys director Michael Bay is reportedly on track to reunite with Will Smith for Fast and Loose.
- The long-gestating project, which has now landed at Netflix, was originally to be directed by David Leitch (John Wick, Bullet Train, The Fall Guy).
- This news comes as Smith drops out of Sicario: Day of Soldado filmmaker Stefano Sollima’s big-budget thriller Sugar Bandits.
If all goes to plan in the coming weeks, we can expect a long-awaited reunion between director Michael Bay and Will Smith — their first proper team-up since the glory days of Bad Boys II.
The project in question is a Netflix action film titled Fast and Loose, which Smith has reportedly been developing for some time now. (Long before a certain career-derailing award ceremony incident.)

The leading man has previously fronted the streaming service’s action fantasy flick Bright, co-starring alongside Australia’s Joel Edgerton; while Bay famously helmed Netflix’s 6 Underground featuring Ryan Reynolds.
According to Deadline, Fast and Loose follows a man (Smith) who awakens in Tijuana with no memories. As he pieces together his past, the mysterious amnesiac learns he’s been living two lives: one as a crime kingpin and the other as an undercover CIA agent.

Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber of Red and The Meg fame; Bad Boys For Life + Bad Boys: Ride or Die scribe Chris Bremner; along with MCU writer Eric Pearson have all contributed to the screenplay.
Kelly McCormick and David Leitch (the director behind John Wick, Bullet Train, The Fall Guy) will produce on behalf of 87North as will Mr. Smith himself; Leitch having originally signed on to steer this ship before jumping overboard for The Fall Guy. Executive producers include Robert Simonds and Noah Fogelson for STXfilms, and Barry Waldman.
Whether we care to admit it or not, between the US$400 million-plus box office take of Bad Boys: Ride or Die and what Netflix’s Fast and Loose could potentially become, Will Smith is steadily taking himself along the comeback trail.
