Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has been enlisted to pen one of the first Star Wars movies since Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker (potentially the very first).
The Academy Award nominee and BAFTA winner enters the picture following the high-profile exit of the previous screenwriters: Damon Lindelof (Lost, Star Trek Into Darkness, Watchmen) and Justin Britt-Gibson (Banshee, Into The Badlands).
While the motive behind their decision isn’t clear, Lindelof alluded to a possible explanation during a recent interview with SlashFilm (via Deadline):
“I will just say, that for reasons that I can’t get into on this Sunday morning, on this day, the degree of difficulty is extremely, extremely, extremely high. If [the film] can’t be great, it shouldn’t exist,” said Damon Lindelof.

“That’s all I’ll say, because I have the same association with [Star Wars] as you do, which is, it’s the first movie I saw sitting in my dad’s lap, four years old, May of ’77.”
“I think it’s possible that sometimes when you hold something in such high reverence and esteem, you start to get in the kitchen and you just go, ‘Maybe I shouldn’t be cooking. Maybe I should just be eating.’ We’ll just leave it at that point.”
So what exactly do we know about this currently untitled project?

As indicated by the headline, not a whole lot. Apart from the fact it’ll be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms Marvel). According to Variety, further details about the movie now being crafted by Steven Knight – including a possible title – are expected to be announced at the Star Wars Celebration in London this April.
Aside from his exposure to the galaxy far, far away, Knight has been steadily occupying himself with an entire stream of television shows since the conclusion of Peaky Blinders; involving everything from the establishment of the SAS, and the rise of Ferrari, to yet another gritty period drama (this one about underground boxing), and of course, the Peaky Blinders movie.
Stay tuned for more details.
