After a lengthy two year wait, Rick & Morty is finally making a return with the first episode of their fourth season premiering tonight, complete with a new and updated opening title sequence.

This first episode has been dubbed ‘Edge of Tomorty: Rick Die Repeat’. So we can only imagine how it will hilariously take the piss out of the Tom Cruise/Emily Blunt film written by Mission Impossible’s Christopher McQuarrie.

The momentum behind Adult Swim’s cult-hit animated series seemed to have reached an all-time high by the conclusion of the last season. You may recall the almost deniable cultural impact it brought about, with real-life moments paying homage to the destructive Pickle Rick, as well as the rather aggressive demand for the revival of McDonald’s promotional Szechuan sauce. Whether this was a positive cultural impact or pure cringe fuel is another discussion entirely.

This initial run of season four will only be five episodes long, with the second half slated for release at a later point in time. But still, five episodes should be enough to satisfy the fans for the time being. We all know how some of them can get when they don’t get what they want…

The first episode of Rick & Morty season four will be available to stream on Adult Swim tonight. Access to episodes on a week-by-week basis via Australian Netflix (similar to last season’s release format) has not yet been confirmed.
