- Jesse Armstrong (Peep Show, Succession, Four Lions) is reuniting with HBO for another satirical affair centred on undoubtedly terrible billionaires.
- The cast currently features Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, Ramy Youssef, and Cory Michael Smith.
- Cameras roll this month with a surprisingly quick turnaround on the books – the release date will reportedly fall sometime between now and May (via HBO).
With a track record that’s yielded two BAFTAs, three Golden Globes, eight Emmys, as well as an Academy Award nomination, it’s unsurprising that Jesse Armstrong essentially has carte blanche to produce whatever the hell he wants.
And what the genius behind Peep Show wants at this very moment is to write and direct another Succession-style satire about billionaires for HBO – this time starring Steve Carell as Randall, Jason Schwartzman as Hugo Van Yalk (AKA “Souper”), Ramy Youssef as Jeff, plus Cory Michael Smith as Venis.

The untitled film’s premise follows “a group of billionaire friends who get together against the backdrop of a rolling international crisis.” Beyond that, however, the details are vague.
“I’m intrigued to discover whether being around so many brilliant actors and directors on Succession has in any way rubbed off on me. Let’s hope so,” Armstrong said via statement.
“I’m grateful to Casey Bloys, Francesca Orsi, and the whole HBO team for backing this film so wholeheartedly and helping me pull together a dream team of cast and crew.”
Francesca Orsi, Executive VP of HBO programming and Head of HBO Drama (Series & Films), added: “We’re ecstatic to be back in business with the singular talent Jesse Armstrong coming off our fruitful collaboration on Succession.”

While Armstrong has penned feature-length projects in the past like the criminally underrated Four Lions starring Riz Ahmed and In The Loop – the latter of which earned him that Oscars nods for Best Adapted Screenplay – this officially marks his directorial debut. And given what he’s delivered as the creator and showrunner of Succession, let’s just say our hopes are high.
Production begins rolling cameras this month in Park City, Utah, with the HBO premiere date slated for as soon as the US Spring (March/April/May). As The Hollywood Reporter notes, this probably signals the intention to make it eligible for the 2025 Emmy Awards. Expect it to hit Binge and Foxtel/Foxtel Go around the same time here in Australia.
