There’s probably as much public demand for The Expendables 4 as there is for more Fast & Furious flicks. Regardless, as he approaches the age of 80, Sylvester Stallone clearly intends to keep himself busy, and milk every last ounce of action stardom from his body (sorry, that sounded far grosser than I imagined). And in addition to that eagerly-anticipated follow-up, it seems as though we’re in for a spin-off with the working title The Expendables: A Christmas Story, starring Jason Statham as Lee Christmas.
The project was first teased in January 2020, with Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code, World of Warcraft) initially signed on as a director, before being replaced by DJ Caruso (The Shield, Smallville). A few days ago, Stallone himself confirmed his involvement, dropping the oddly cutesy working title, as well as revealing production will officially commence in October later this year.

One can only imagine what this forthcoming cinematic milestone will entail, aside from Jason Statham reprising his role as Jason Statham, cheesy B-grade dialogue courtesy of screenwriter Max Jones, and yet another movie dads around the world can fall asleep to on the weekend after an entire arvo of backyard chores. We’re not exactly in a rush to find out, either. It’s very much a situation of if it comes, it comes.; if it doesn’t… meh.
Sylvester Stallone has also recently provided a status update regarding the production of The Expendables 4. Taking to Instagram, the Italian Stallion posted an image of a golden skull ring with purple stone eyes, which we can only assume is the new good luck charm of his character, Barney Ross.

“Just finished designing the new ring for The Expendables 4,” writes Sly.
“It’s a little heavy, but it’ll definitely put some muscles on your fingertips.”
Back in March of 2014, Piece Brosnan of all actors had reportedly signed on for the franchise’s fourth chapter. Though admittedly, not much else is know at this stage. There has, however, been an endless procession of rumours on the subject of potential cast members aside from the usual suspects of Stallone, Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and more.
Jean-Claude Van Damme, for one, has expressed interest in returning as the brother of his villain character from The Expendables 2. Other names thrown into the mix by media speculation include Robert Downey Jr., Liam Neeson, Dave Bautista, and even Clint Eastwood.
Keep an eye out here for updates on The Expendables: A Christmas Story starring Jason Statham and Sylvester Stallone. Or don’t. We’re not really too invested in this one.
