Straight up: it’s been an absolute joy to watch Ryan Gosling take on projects that let him showcase what had previously been criminally underrated comedic chops.
From Crazy, Stupid, Love and The Big Short to The Nice Guys and (of course) Barbie, the progression has steadily confirmed what the world had long suspected… the dude’s hilarious. Now, we’re receiving proof with David Leitch’s The Fall Guy.
Starring opposite Emily Blunt for something of an unofficial Barbenheimer sequel, Gosling takes on the role of Colt Seavers — a battered and past-his-prime action choreographer who finds himself working on a film with Hollywood superstar Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson).

When Tom goes missing and the film, which is being directed by Colt’s ex-girlfriend Jody Moreno (Blunt), becomes in danger of a total shutdown, Colt volunteers to find Tom and save Jody’s directorial debut.
Shenanigans all throughout the city of Sydney ensue. In fact, the latest preview shines a spotlight on locations ranging from Town Hall’s real-life tramline to the unmistakable backdrop of Barangaroo’s Crown Towers.
The cast also features Winston Duke as Dan Tucker, Colt’s best friend and stunt coordinator; Hannah Waddingham as Gail Meyer, Jody’s executive producer; Stephanie Hsu as Alma Milan, Ryder’s personal assistant; with Lee Majors, who starred in the original television series of the same name, also signed on for a cameo appearance.
Incidentally, The Fall Guy has been helmed by a real-life stunt extraordinaire David Leitch. You may have encountered his handiwork as the stunt double for Brad Pitt and Jean-Claude Van Damme on a handful of occasions; before he co-directed John Wick with fellow stunt guy Chad Stahelski.

Leitch has since provided other memorable action-packed affairs such as Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw, and most recently, Bullet Train starring the aforementioned Pitt.
As for the screenplay, it’s been penned by Drew Pearce of Iron Man 3, Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation, and Hobbs & Shaw fame.
The Fall Guy starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt hits Aussie cinemas on April 24th, 2024 — check out the brand new trailer above.
