Less than three months away from its release, Marvel Studios has only now provided the very first teaser trailer for Thor: Love & Thunder starring Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman.
When we last left Hemsworth’s Norse God of Thunder at the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame, he’d decided to surrender the throne to Asgard, making way for Valkyrie (portrayed by Tessa Thompson) to lead the rebuilding kingdom.
Instead of assuming the role he’d been groomed for since birth, the loveable goofball jock many of us were so charmed by in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok decided to wander the cosmos with Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill / Starlord and the Guardians of the Galaxy.

In the franchise’s fourth instalment, which has once again been helmed by Waititi and filmed right here in Australia, Thor appears to be enjoying retirement. Scored to ‘Sweet Child ‘O Mine’ by Guns ‘N Roses, the preview dropped in the early hours of this morning depicts the former Avenger working out to shed his depression gut, tagging along with Starlord & Co, as well as being reunited with fan favourite rock man, Korg (portrayed by Taika Waititi).
“These hands were once used for battle, now they’re but humble tools for peace,” says Hemsworth’s Thor Odinson as he sets aside his newly-forged battle-axe, Stormbreaker.
“Now I need to figure out exactly who I am.”

There are, however, a few key moments that’ll certainly pique the interest of fans – more so than usual. The Thor: Love & Thunder teaser trailer has also offered a glimpse of both Russell Crowe as the Greek deity Zeus (thunder buddies, anyone?) and Natalie Portman reprising her role as love interest Jane Foster… only this time around, she’s proven herself worthy of wielding the hammer Mjolnir, meaning we could very well be looking at Hemsworth’s successor for the (Mighty) Thor mantle + franchise. Despite all this, we’ve yet to catch a good look at Christian Bale as the film’s villain, Gorr the God Butcher.
Thor: Love & Thunder has been co-written by Taika Waititi and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, and – as previously mentioned – been directed by the former. The film has been produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum.
As for a release date, you can expect Thor: Love & Thunder to hit theatres on July 7th of 2022 – check out the teaser trailer above and official synopsis below.
Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Thor attempts to find inner peace but ends up recruiting Valkyrie, Korg, and Jane Foster — who has become the Mighty Thor — to help stop Gorr the God Butcher from eliminating all gods.
