Although it was expected sooner or later, given the legendary British rockers will be headlining Falls Festival over the New Year’s period, Arctic Monkeys have this week announced three massive outdoor shows to take place across Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney to help kick off 2023. Scheduled from early to mid-January, the Arctic Monkeys Australian concerts will be supported by Midlife, DMA’S and The Buoys, who will be chopping and changing support act duties depending on the dates.

In addition to their headline performances at Falls Festival, NSW’s Lost Paradise and Adelaide’s Heaps Good festivals, the hitmakers behind classics ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor’ and ‘Do I Wanna Know?’ will be taking to some of the East Coast’s best open-air venues, ranging Sydney’s The Domain, Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl and Brisbane’s Riverstage.

Considering they were down here in 2019 just before the pandemic struck, it’s likely this will be a bit of a ‘greatest hits’ celebration even though the band should have a new album out by the end of the year which drummer Matt Helders has said recently will pick up where 2018’s subversive Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino left off.

While they’ll be playing alongside the likes of Lil Nas X, Chvrches and Jamie XX for Falls Festival, these outdoor concerts will be a chance for Arctic Monkeys to hopefully sprinkle in more of a focused stream of the band’s well-known hits balanced with newer songs from their untitled new album.

With both Arctic Monkeys and The Killers due to tour Australia later this year, it seems the country’s undying love for modern stadium British rock is going to be well-fed. Who knows, maybe even Bloc Party will be announcing a tour soon?

All three Arctic Monkeys shows will be all-ages as well, removing the age restrictions associated with festivals. Tickets will go on sale from Friday 17th June at 12 pm local time, although there is also a pre-sale beginning the day before for those particularly keen to get their hands on some Arctic Monkeys tickets before anyone else – and the inevitable scalpers – even get a chance.
