Arguably one of the most atmospheric annual festivals to hit Melbourne, the Brunswick Music Festival, is back after a two-year hiatus with a massive nine-day program that’ll see some of the finest local music take over the suburb’s best venues. And while there’s no secret Fred Again gig to cause mass hysteria, the event is shaping up to be a ripper way to kick off Autumn and dig deep into what makes Brunswick tick.
Beginning on Sunday, March 5 with the epic Sydney Road Street Party, Brunswick Music Festival will feature a roll call of local heavy-hitters such as punk rockers Cable Ties, indie artist Pinch Points and others including June Jones, Ajak Kwai, Mindu Weng Wang and Black Jesus Experience. In previous years, this has been one of the inner north’s finest days out, so as long as the weather isn’t playing up, this should easily be one of the better things on Melbourne’s upcoming events calendar.
Melville Road’s Estonian House will serve as one of the festival’s major hubs with a five-night program roping in the likes of US psych-pop band Crumb, Nigerian guitarist Mdou Moctar, UK producer Leon Vynehall and Aussies CIVIV and Camp Cope.

Brunswick Music Festival wraps on Monday, March 13, so you’ve got plenty of time to at least catch a few gigs if you want to make the most of this mini SXSW-style music festival. Gigs will reportedly take place everywhere in Brunswick, from Howler and Brunswick Ballroom to Sydney Road kebab joint Alasya.
