Cardi B has dethroned America’s former sweetheart, Taylor Swift, sliding into the Billboard Charts’ number one spot armed with her hit track, ‘Bodak Yellow’. The 24-year-old hip-hop rainmaker also happened to make history along that way as the first female rapper to have a number one song without features since Ms. Lauryn Hill and “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998.
This comes as less of a surprise than one would expect, with Cardi B’s fans campaigning earlier this month to send ‘Bodak Yellow’ to the top, and put a proverbial end to the momentous “Look What You Made Me Do” singer. This was, of course, no small feat. You know what they say, heavy lies the crown, and the crown issomething not so easily shaken off.

Only time will tell how long Ms. B’s run will last, but judging from the state of things, it’s safe to say that she’s not going anywhere anytime soon. Here’s to a well-deserved shot at the title, and a long, hopefully fruitful reign.
