UPDATE [27/02/2024]: Fred Again is playing at the Sydney Opera House tonight, but if you’re reading this and don’t already have a ticket, it’s probably too late.
ORIGINAL ARTICLE [25/02/2024]: There’ve been plenty of breadcrumbs suggesting that Fred Again (real name: Fredrick John Philip Gibson) is currently en route to Australia for a series of surprise shows. But we’ve just received the closest thing to a hard confirmation thus far.
Through an anonymous industry insider with direct knowledge of this impromptu tour, BH has received word that the award-winning English producer/DJ is indeed returning to send East Coast electronic music fans into yet another frenzy — almost exactly a year since he last graced our sunburnt nation with his Boiler Room-anointed presence for St Jerome’s Laneway Festival (2023), along with a handful of similarly covert sets.

This revelation follows several Instagram stories posted by the man of the moment.
The first notable clue? An image of Fred Again sitting on backstage equipment labelled “Rod Laver Arena.” Since then, he’s followed up with a story of himself holding a tub of Vegemite and a picture of Ian McKellan’s Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings. A not-so-subtle reference to the New Zealand leg of this sojourn, perhaps?
Earlier today (February 26th, 2024), Fred Again added to the ongoing intrigue with a selfie captioned: “Okay… We’re getting on a flight now… And when we land… We’re gonna play some shows…” He later added, “I’ve been SO excited about this for monthsssssss,” before photographing himself boarding what quite clearly appears to be a Qantas aircraft.

In short, keep your eyes peeled, ears to the ground, and your schedule wide open.
If this shapes up to be even remotely similar to the insanity that gripped last year’s pop-up shows at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre and Hordern Pavilion — the latter of which sold over 5,000 tickets within minutes — or the secret gig in Melbourne — which sold out in a single goddamn minute — it’ll be another proverbial knife fight to experience the genius behind ‘Rumble,’ ‘Jungle,’ and ‘Marea (We’ve Lost Dancing)’.
