Fresh from their monster triple-threat show with Fred Again… in Madison Square Garden, both Skrillex and Four Tet are due for Australia in September to headline Listen Out 2023.
Fuzzy’s long-running outdoor music festival, which has taken the reigns from the likes of Parklife and Future Music Festival, will return to four cities while a smaller boutique spin-off called Listen In will pop by Adelaide.
Aside from Skrillex and Four Tet showing out as the big drawcard for the festival, the rest of the Listen Out lineup is, as you’d expect, a healthy mix of producers and rappers that play heavily into the trends of 2022-23. This includes “Boys A Liar” rapper Ice Spice, JPEGMAFIA, Lil’ Uzi Vert, Metro Boomin’, Coi Leray, Marc Rebillet, Young Franco, Kobie Dee and Mallrat.
There’s enough scope for all different styles of EDM and more radio-friendly hip hop to once again position Listen Out as one of Australia’s most popular music festivals, That being said, aside from Four Tet and Skrillex there’s nothing that really jumps out for a festival that in the past has pulled in acts like Joey Bada$$, Childish Gambino, Mac Miller, Bryson Tiller, A$AP Rocky and Flume.
Listen Out will start in Brisbane on September 23 and then work its way across Perth and Melbourne before wrapping up in Sydney on September 30. Meanwhile, Adelaide will once again get Listen In, which is a smaller format version of Listen Out with a reduced lineup including Skrillex, Ice Spice, Lil’ Uzi Vert, Arrdee, Friction, Marc Rebillet and Piri.
It doesn’t look like Adelaide will, however, be getting Four Tet. The famously complex and multi-talented electronic producer, who recently released a new album by Fred Again… and Brian Eno on his own label, will be bringing his heady productions only to Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth instead.
