UPDATE [05/08/2022]: With Shaq (AKA DJ Diesel) announcing a one-off DJ set at Marquee Sydney for August 27th, it was just a matter of time before the big man locked in one of his high-octane sets for a Melbourne nightclub as well. Announced this week, the NBA legend will be shacking up at 170 Russell on Wednesday, August 24th to power through one of his energetic bouquet of bangers as a bit of a sideshow to his speaking tour commitments with The Hour Group.

Granted, it’s a bit of a rip that DJ Diesel in Melbourne takes place on a Wednesday night, while Sydney gets a weekend. Regardless, if you think you’ve got what it takes to keep up with Shaq as he commands the decks then you’re looking at an easy $70 a ticket, which you can purchase here.

The first two batches of allocation have already sold out so we recommend firing up the group chat as soon as possible.

Original Article – Shaq Is Playing A DJ Set In Sydney This August

Shaquille O’Neal has been known to jump behind the Pioneer decks every now and again under the stage alias DJ Diesel, having pumped out massive EDM sets at the likes of Tomorrowland and EDC Vegas since 2015. And while Marquee Sydney isn’t quite on the same scale (or calibre) as those globally-renowned festivals, one of the city’s last remaining nightclubs will soon play host to Shaq for a single memorable night.

The appearance will serve as a side attraction to his upcoming Aussie tour ‘An Evening With Shaquille O’Neal’ – which was slightly overshadowed by news that Dagestani internet sensation Hasbulla would also be heading Down Under around the same time.

Come August 27th, DJ Diesel’s one-off show at Marquee Sydney will officially mark the very first time everyone’s favourite four-time NBA champion and business mogul performs live here in Australia. Fans already know the big man has been dabbling in music for decades now, dropping a string of haphazard rap albums in the 90s and logging a few stints as a DJ post-retirement. But he’s never brought his love of music to our sunburnt shores before.

The NBA Hall-of-Famer will cast an immense shadow behind the relatively small DJ booth at Marquee, no doubt throwing out plenty of formless EDM-appropriated trap music if some of his previous sets are anything to go by.

Based on the footage of DJ Diesel at EDC Vegas earlier this year – and Lollapooloza back in 2019 – it’s not hard to imagine Marquee Sydney turning the fuck up when Shaq rolls through. His sets seem aggressively full-on, with Shaq heard constantly shouting and hyping the crowd in his unmistakably gruff voice. Watch the video of DJ Diesel at EDC Vegas below and you’ll get the idea.

Although the news of a Shaq at Marquee Sydney may have flown slightly under the radar for many, it seems early entry and first release tickets to see the basketball-icon-cum-DJ has already sold out. Second-release tickets are currently still available at $80 a pop, but with the show selling fast, it’s probably best to fire up the group chat ASAP.

Given the promoters are also taking An Evening with Shaq to Melbourne, it’s likely we can probably expect a sneaky DJ Diesel sideshow there in addition to the locked-in Sydney date. Maybe at Revs (can you imagine?). Stay tuned for the eventual announcement.
