Splendour In The Grass just isn’t quite the same outside of those July weekend dates. As an event tens of thousands of punters look forward to year after year, while they’re undoubtedly grateful Australia’s premier music festival is still happening in 2021 – pushed back to a warmer, potentially sunnier November date – many will feels as though something is missing approaching the end of next month. That’s where Splendour XR comes in.

Hailed as the world’s first immersive virtual music festival, this online-only – not to mention, far more affordable – experience will combine technology and art to bring you over 50 of your favourite music acts. Headlined by the likes of Khalid, The Killers, Denzel Curry, Duke Dumont, and more, the virtual collaboration promises to be the real deal (or as real as virtual can get). In lieu of avatars in a video game and recycled content, Splendour VR is offering never-before-seen live sets performed and recorded especially for the occasion.

Build your virtual festival-going self and navigate an “imaginatively embellished” yet faithful recreation of Splendour’s Byron Bay venue grounds, minus the mud, extremely obvious undercover police, and munted kin. And just like the real-life Splendour, you’ll be able to create your own schedule, travelling from stage to stage to watch your favourite artists, even virtually meeting up with your mates along the way.

“Splendour has always offered patrons a deep programming experience with The Forum, Global Village, Little Splendour, and more on offer alongside our favourite artists,” says Jessica Ducrou & Paul Piticco, Splendour In The Grass Co-Producers.

“We could not be more excited about Splendour XR and the opportunity to take the Splendour goodness online to our existing community and also to new audiences around the globe.”

“Working with Splendour we have been challenged to go above and beyond anything we’ve done before,” says Pouyan Afkary, Sansar Business Development.

“This is going to be the most impressive virtual live event that the consumer market has ever seen, and we can say that with absolute confidence.”

Splendour XR will take place on mobiles, tablets, and desktops everywhere, across the usual festival dates: July 24th to 25th (12 PM to 2 AM [AEST]). Tickets will be available to purchase today for existing Splendour In The Grass ticket holders + early birds from $19.99 for a single day pass (1st release opens June 10th). Existing Splendour In The Grass ticket holders will also receive a $2.50 early bird discount. Anyone looking to host a Splendour XR house part will also be afforded the opportunity to cop XR Party Packs, which comes with some branded apparel.
