After hanging up the headphones in 2013, EDM trio Swedish House Mafia went dark seemingly at the peak of their global rise to fame. Jump forward to 2018, and a surprise rebirth of the group at Ultra Music Festival in Miami really made our pants tighten.
Then things went quiet. Nada. All the sonic pleasure that was teased fell flat on its face, with Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell, and Steve Angello nowhere to be seen on the charts in the following years. Until now.
‘It Gets Better,’ is the electronic trio’s first new music in more than eight years. After signing with Republic Records this month, the track is also accompanied by a music video directed by Alexander Wessely.
Speaking to Billboard, the group explained the teething process behind several false starts at a return to music:
“It was tough — we’re getting older, obviously, and the whole EDM bubble for me has come to a point where nobody is taking risks, to be honest, including me,” says Sebastian Ingrosso.
“[Our perfectionism] kills us also sometimes. But for us, it needs to be a certain way. And that’s why it takes time.”
