Backlash be damned. Netflix has confirmed Dave Chappelle will soon be hitting streaming queues with a brand new stand-up comedy special.
Arriving on December 31st to usher in the new year with a bang — or at the very least, online furore — the forthcoming release was announced via X (formerly Twitter); along with a brief teaser clip in which Morgan Freeman makes a voice-only cameo.
“He’s back,” the Academy Award-winning thespian, who appeared in a previous promo for Chappelle’s last Netflix special The Closer, stated with a chuckle.
Despite the controversy incited by the legendary comedian’s “transphobic” jokes, Netflix can’t seem to get enough of Dave Chappelle (a la Joe Rogan and Spotify). Even after the conclusion of their insanely lucrative six-special deal.
Last year, the streamer doubled down on its fruitful (and Grammy-winning) partnership by greenlighting an entire batch of specials hosted by him entitled Chappelle’s Home Team; spotlighting everyone from veteran collaborator Donnell Rawlings to Earthquake (real name: Nathaniel Martin Stroman).
The currently untitled Dave Chappelle stand-up comedy special which, once again, premieres later this month on December 31st will mark his first true effort with Netflix since The Closer.
