  • Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May will once again be gracing our screens for Amazon Prime Video’s The Not Very Grand Tour.
  • Subverting the traditional episode format, it’ll serve as a retrospective of their iconic partnership; this comes in the wake of last September’s The Grand Tour: One For The Road shot in Zimbabwe.
  • The Not Very Grand Tour is slated to premiere on April 18th, 2025.

Months after Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May ostensibly closed the book on their 22-year-long collaboration – across both Top Gear and Amazon’s The Grand Tour – the beloved trio are returning for something of a retrospective.

Aptly titled The Not Very Grand Tour, this promises to be a nostalgic cruise down memory lane (essentially a clip show, for the cynics out there). Phil Churchward, a longtime collaborator who helmed episodes of Top Gear and The Grand Tour, has signed on to direct.

The first instalment has been dubbed ‘The Glory & the Power,’ and as per Amazon’s own description, will entail the following: “In this episode, the team celebrate the combustion engine, with a look back at footage from past adventures and test drives.”

Aside from minimal fresh travel antics, there is another catch.

According to RadioTimes, while Hammond and May are set to host, Clarkson is only (re)appearing through archival footage. Which does feel a tad like bait-and-switch territory, if you ask us, but we’ll reserve judgment until we see it for ourselves.

As for the matter of The Grand Tour’s future beyond this, Richard Hammond has previously confirmed it would continue with alternate presenters; the identities of whom are still currently TBA.

“It will be carrying on,” the seasoned broadcaster told Metro.co.uk.

“The Grand Tour continues. We’re stepping away as the hosts, but Prime will be continuing it. So I can’t wait to sit on my own chair and watch somebody else do it. That’s amazing.”

Elsewhere, Clarkson elaborated on their decision to disband: “It’s immensely physical when you’re unfit and fat and old, which I am.”

“I’ve driven cars higher than anyone else and further north than anyone else. We’ve done everything you can do with a car. When we had meetings about what to do next, people just threw their arms in the air.”

“James May thinks there’s never been a more interesting time for how we move around and he’s probably right, but I don’t think it’s very interesting television. An electric car is no different from a chest freezer or a microwave oven.”

“There’s no glamour or excitement. This week on Top Chest Freezer! I think it suits the written media more.”

Amazon Prime Video has locked in April 18th, 2025 for the release date of The Not Very Grand Tour. Stay tuned for updates.
