Jon Hamm was made for the small screen. And no – that isn’t an insult by any stretch of the imagination.
After his career-defining run as enigmatic advertising creative Don Draper in Mad Men, his most memorable performances ranged from a single-season tenure as the take-no-prisoners Sheriff Roy Tillman in FX’s Fargo anthology series; to a hilarious stint as a fictitious version of himself emulating Larry David in Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Both of these were roles he was allowed to build with the freedom of episodic screen time and explore facets within his dramatic (and comedic) range we hadn’t really seen much of, bar the odd appearance on Parks & Recreations, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and I suppose Bad Times at the El Royale.
Now, in the wake of Taylor Sheridan’s latest hit series Landman, the talented Mr Hamm is fronting Apple TV+’s intriguing drama Your Friends & Neighbours, created by Jonathan Tropper (Banshee, Warrior, See).
The story follows Andrew “Coop” Cooper (Jon Hamm), a divorced New York hedge fund manager with Don Draperian shades to his character who’s unexpectedly fired in disgrace. With only enough cash to float himself and support his family’s lavish lifestyle for six months, Coop resorts to robbing the homes of his neighbours in the affluent Westmont Village.
But he soon discovers that the “secrets and affairs hidden behind those wealthy facades” might be more dangerous than he ever imagined – and certainly, far more than he’d initially bargained for with this ill-conceived and desperate foray into grand larceny.
Jon Hamm is joined by Olivia Munn as Samantha “Sam” Levitt, Amanda Peet as Mel Cooper, Mark Tallman as Nick Brandes, Hoon Lee as Barney Choi, Lena Hall as Allison “Ali” Cooper (Coop’s ex-wife), Aimee Carrero as Elena Benavides, Isabel Gravitt as Tori Cooper, Donovan Colan as Hunter Cooper, and Eunice Bae as Grace Choi.

Sandrine Holt, Corbin Bernsen, Sarah Thompson, Daniel Dale, and Gino Vento also appear on a recurring basis.
Clearly, Apple TV+ believes it has another winner on its hands. On the strength of its first episodes alone, the streamer pre-emptively greenlit Your Friends & Neighbours for season 2 all the way back in November.
“I’ve had this show in my head for years, and making it has been a dream come true,” said Jonathan Tropper.
“It’s been an absolute thrill partnering with Hamm, along with Connie Tavel and Craig Gillespie, to bring it to life. The support from everyone at Apple has been phenomenal, and the fact that they’ve ordered a second season before we aired our first is an incredible validation… We can’t wait for everyone to see it.”
