Just over a month after it premiered, Netflix has ordered another helping of Culinary Class Wars. The streaming service has confirmed that season 2 of the South Korean cooking competition series is now entering production.
Culinary Class Wars is a large-scale cooking contest featuring 100 cooks split between two groups known as “white spoons” and “black spoons,” competing for a prize of â‚©300 million ($329,000). That’s a lot of cooks in the kitchen, but sheer scale is not the show’s only talking point.

The 20 white spoons are an elite brigade of one-Michelin-starred chefs, previous cooking competition winners, and celebrity chefs. Meanwhile, the remaining 80 competitors are non-celebrity chefs looking to make a name for themselves — all competing under off-beat aliases, like ‘Goddess of Chinese Cuisine’, ‘Napoli Mafia’, and ‘Master of School Meals’.
Those 80 black spoons are pared down pretty quickly, though. In the first round, they’re given 100 minutes to cook a personal signature dish, with only 20 able to advance to the next stage of the competition. From there, the two groups will go head-to-head with one another — and against their culinary class — until a single chef remains.
The chef’s efforts are judged by Paik Jong-won, one of Korea’s top restaurateurs; and chef Anh Sung-jae the founder of Mosu Seoul, which stands as South Korea’s only three-Michelin-starred restaurant.
So what can we expect in Culinary Class Wars season 2? As reported by Korea JoongAng Daily, thanks to the success of the show’s first season, co-producers Kim Hak-min and Kim Eun-ji have been making a list of potential black spoons, which include one Gordon Ramsay.
Can you imagine what that would be like if it came together? Ramsay’s presence, one imagines, would put napalm on the heat of an already intense cooking show.
