It would seem that HBO has another hit on their hands with the Jordan Peele and JJ Abrams-produced series, Lovecraft Country. A blend of slow-burn drama and heart-pumping horror that’ll be sure to have you begging for ‘just one more episode’, week on week – think season one of True Detective meets Stranger Things.
Based on the Matt Ruff novel of the same name, Lovecraft Country will follow protagonist – Atticus Black – as he reunites with his Uncle George and friend Letitia in search of his missing father, i.e. the True Detective component of the mix.
Set in 1950s Jim Crow era America, they soon face the terrors of racism as well as something more… sinister. Creatures that could very well have been ripped from a Lovecraft paperback, i.e. the Stranger Things component of the mix. As you’ll soon discover in the trailer below, it becomes a desperate fight for survival on all fronts.
Lovecraft Country stars JonathAn Majors, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Wunmi Mosaku, Michael K. Williams, Courtney B. Vance, and Jamie Chung. Created by Misha Green, it will – as previously mentioned – have the support of both Jordan Peele and JJ Abrams in an executive producer capacity.
Lovecraft Country is scheduled to premiere in August of 2020. As for an exact date, that has yet to be announced.
