HBO Debuts First Trailer For ‘Watchmen’ TV Series

— Updated on 30 July 2021

With Game Of Thrones almost over, it’s time to start thinking about what HBO series are on offer to binge next, and if the trailer for Watchmen is anything to go by, it seems like we’ve already answered our own question.

Produced by HBO and based on Alan Moore’s graphic novel of the same name, Watchmen looks like a very interesting take on the original source material. In the novel, set during the 80s, superheroes are the bad guys after one of them is responsible for an unusual event that decimates New York, but this series seems to be a new interpretation of Moore’s story.

While details are scarce regarding the actual plot, Watchmen has a more contemporary setting, hinting that the show is more of a sequel than a rehash of Moore’s story. The trailer sets up a showdown between the long-forgotten superheroes and a masked police force, with a cowboy hat wearing Don Johnson seemingly cast in a major role. We also catch a glimpse of Jeremy Irons, who appears to be an older version of Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias, the man who saved humanity in the original graphic novel, along with Regina King and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

What we can confirm is Lost and Leftovers creator Damon Lindelof is in charge of bringing the show to the small screen, so there’s a good chance Watchmen will include some engrossing and non-sensical plot points.

This should be another successful notch in HBO’s already overflowing belt of awesome shows, just as long as Lindelof doesn’t end with all the characters being already dead.

And in case you missed it, HBO’s Chernobyl, based on the 1986 nuclear disaster, debuted its pilot episode this week.
