We’d almost begun to doubt all those earlier reports about a David Beckham documentary series destined for Netflix, given it had been years since the initial announcement (and well over an entire year since the last update). But today, Netflix’s Beckham finally has a trailer, along with a confirmed release date.

“I’m excited to confirm that I am partnering with Netflix on a documentary series about my life and career. The series will feature unseen archives, untold stories, as well as interviews with the people who have been a part of my journey,” David Beckham stated back in July 2022.

By all accounts, this won’t just be a retrospective of Beck’s journey to enviable footballing accomplishments, rich beyond his wildest dreams, and international stardom; but also a dissection of fame and its lasting impact on a working-class kid who only ever wanted to kick a ball for the love of the game.

In addition to Facetime with the big fellas himself, Beckham also features interviews with family, friends, and fellow footballing icons alike: wife/retired Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, mentor/Manchester United icon Sir Alex Ferguson, Roy Keane, Beckham’s parents, as well as Gary Neville, Eric Cantona, Rio Ferdinand, and Paul Scholes.

Other names you can expect an appearance from include Diego Simeone, Carlos Queiroz, Luís Figo, Míchel Salgado, Florentino Pérez, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo Nazário, Fabio Capello, plus Mel C (AKA Sporty Spice).

This four-part affair has been helmed by Academy Award–winning director Fisher Stevens (Palmer, And We Go Green, The Cove) with Academy + Emmy Award–winning producer John Battsek (One Day in September, Searching for Sugar Man, Winter on Fire) along for the ride.

Beckham premieres on Netflix on October 4th, 2023 — check out the first trailer above.
