- Netflix’s Kaos is essentially American Gods meets The Boys.
- Created by Charlie Covell (The End of the F**king World), starring Jeff Goldblum as Zeus.
- Release date: August 29th, 2024.
Some projects sound like A-grade material right from the jump, such as Netflix‘s forthcoming mythological dark-comedy series Kaos.
You take a proven show creator in Charlie Covell (The End of the F**king World); let them run with a concept as enticing as ‘American Gods meets The Boys‘; cast a charming devil of an actor, in the form of Jeff Goldblum, to play a neurotic deity… and the result starts resembling streaming’s next big hit.

The premise of Kaos is basically this: when the all-powerful yet insecure Zeus (Goldblum) fears the end of his reign, he becomes vengeful. Specifically towards his lieges, and later, three humans — Riddy (Aurora Perrineau), Ari (Leila Farzad), and Caneus (Misia Butler) — connected to an ancient prophecy related to his downfall. There’s also the small detail of Earth’s possible apocalypse.
“My character is complicated and charismatic, not to mention cruel,” explains Goldblum.
At the same time, the tracksuit-clad god’s former friend and now prisoner Prometheus (Stephen Dillane) orchestrates a plot to bring him down involving the three aforementioned humans, who are totally unaware of their “cosmic significance” or the part they must play in saving humanity.
And in the background, Zeus’ family begin scheming and failing in their own ways — not entirely dissimilarly to the antics of Arrested Development, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, and to some extent, HBO’s Succession.
Goldblum adds: “There are secrets that people are keeping, like in any family. But after over 2,000 years together, you can imagine!”
“It’s so brutal. It’s about the 1%, which is what I think the gods are,” says Janet McTeer, who portrays Zeus’ canonical wife Hera.

“They will do anything for their own pleasure. They don’t care what it costs people or the Earth.”
The cast also features Cliff Curtis as Poseidon, David Thewlis as Hades (having previously played Ares in Wonder Woman), Killian Scott as Orpheus, Debi Mazar as Medusa, and Nabhaan Rizwan as Dionysus; along with Rakie Ayola, Stanley Townsend, Billie Piper, and Eddie Izzard.
Kaos begins streaming on Netflix from August 29th, 2024 — check out the first teaser trailer above.
