Doubling down on action-thriller content, Netflix has issued a straight-to-series, eight-episode order for the TV adaptation of Man on Fire.
Based on the first two A. J. Quinnell novels featuring former French Foreign Legion soldier John Creasy – specifically Man on Fire (1981) and The Perfect Kill (1992) – Kyle Killen is attached to write the executive produce the forthcoming affair; having made a name for himself as the creator of Lone Star and Awake as well as Paramount’s Halo series before departing for greener pastures.
Similar to the 2004 Tony Scott film and the 1987 Italian flick starring Scott Glenn, Netflix’s Man on Fire TV series will, in the streaming giant’s own words (via The Hollywood Reporter), tell the story of John Creasy – a broken ex-mercenary on a mission to avenge the death of his only friend, while protecting his fallen comrade’s daughter from the forces that destroyed her family.
Casting and release date TBA.

Incidentally, the stars of Tony Scott’s Man on Fire – Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning – have recently reunited for Antoine Fuqua’s The Equalizer 3.
Working off a screenplay written by Richard Wenk – who (loosely) adapted the classic 1980s TV series of the same name starring Edward Woodward for the two previous franchise instalments; in addition to having penned Fuqua’s reboot of The Magnificent Seven – production kicked off on the Amalfi Coast last October.
It’s unclear what The Equalizer 3 will entail plot-wise, aside from Denzel’s Robert McCall beating the bricks off thugs, mercenaries, and rapey dudebro yuppies alike while shielding the vulnerable; be they teenage prostitutes like Teri (Chloe Grace Moretz), murdered friends of the retired US Marine and DIA intelligence officer turned vigilante, or whatever character Dakota Fanning is taking on this time around.
The Equalizer 3Â starring Denzel Washington is currently scheduled for an August 31st, 2023 release date.
