Anyone who was less than satisfied with the Peaky Blinders finale will be glad to hear Netflix is making it up to you with two spin-offs on the boiler — in addition to the show’s upcoming feature-length sequel.

According to Bloomberg (of all publications), one of these spin-offs would be set in Boston during the middle of the 20th century; a few decades after the events of the original series.

The other would be centred upon Shelby clan matriarch Polly Gray; given the passing of the character’s actress, Helen McCrory, we can only assume this would take the form of a prequel delineating her rise to prominence.

This falls in line with earlier sentiments from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, who has previously stated he’d be willing to keep the BAFTA-winning crime drama’s cinematic universe alive with “shows related” to the main story.

Knight did also state, however, that should such projects go ahead, he’d adopt an extremely hands-off approach; instead choosing to “pass on the baton” to another creative with a vision.

Reports of Netflix’s Peaky Blinders spin-offs comes just days after Steven Knight provided a major update regarding the aforementioned Peaky Blinders movie: the screenplay is in the final stages of completion, with principal photography now scheduled to begin in 2024.

“I’m just working on the final bits of it at the moment,” he told Radio Times.

“I just sit down at the keyboard and start. It’s a bit like having a dream, for me. You sit there and all this stuff comes, and then you read it back and think, ‘That’s pretty good — but where did it come from?'”

“The plan is to start shooting that in the middle of next year.”

Elsewhere, the British entertainment creative — who has been keeping himself busy with everything from SAS: Rogue Heroes and several other period dramas (i.e. one about the rise of Ferrari; another British crime drama starring Stephen Graham) — confirmed “the story is not yet over.”

“Huge thanks to our incredible fans for the past ten years. Here’s to the next ten.”

So where does the man behind Tommy Shelby himself, Cillian Murphy, fit into all this? The Oppenheimer star has (thankfully) expressed how game he is to return for a feature-length character exploration on multiple occasions.

“That’s probably the worst thing about Peaky Blinders — getting asked about the movie all the time!” joked Murphy.

“I’m totally open to the idea, but I also do think it was a kind of perfect six seasons. It’s sometimes hard to move into the film format, and I do like the ambiguity of the ending, but I’m always open to a great script… who wouldn’t be?”
